Muungano
The name "Muungano" itself means "unity" in Swahili, reflecting the cooperative effort to bring together scattered small farmers for the benefit of all.
Grown in organic soil 1,00 - 2,600 m above sea level in the volcanic soils of Lake Kivu, this coffee boasts the full complexity of the Lake Kivu terroir. Each family producer owns their own coffee trees and manages their farms independently. Cooperative members from different communities come together, despite past divisions. The members work with the goal of producing the finest coffee in the South Kivu region. Organic, fair trade, and traceable.
Impact: Optimist Coffee Traders builds upon what’s possible when farmers, cooperatives, importers, and roasters unite around a common vision: to build a coffee industry rooted in fairness, sustainability, and shared prosperity.
Congo is velvety soft with a crisp finish.
